Cookie policy

This policy explains how cookies and similar browser technologies may be used when you visit A Book's Life.

1. What is a cookie?

A cookie is a small piece of information stored on your device by a website. Similar technologies can also store or read information on a device. Cookies may be used to keep a site secure, remember choices, understand how a service is used or support third-party features.

2. How A Book's Life uses cookies

The custom A Book's Life website plugin does not intentionally add advertising or behavioural-tracking cookies. WordPress.com, the hosting environment, security services or other enabled services may use cookies or similar technologies for technical operation, security, administration or measurement.

We keep cookie use under review and aim to use only what is proportionate to operating the website.

3. Strictly necessary cookies

Strictly necessary cookies may be used where they are needed to provide a service you request, maintain security, manage network traffic, prevent abuse or support essential WordPress administration. These cookies do not require consent where the applicable legal exemption applies, but information about them should still be available.

4. Analytics, advertising and other optional technologies

UK rules on cookies and similar storage or access technologies are contained in the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR), as amended by the Data (Use and Access) Act 2025.

Non-essential advertising, behavioural tracking, personalisation or similar technologies will only be used where there is a valid legal basis, including consent where consent is required. Where consent is required, visitors should be able to make a clear choice and change that choice later.

PECR now contains additional limited exceptions for some low-risk uses, including certain statistical uses intended to improve an online service. If we rely on an applicable exception, we will still provide clear information about the technology and keep its use within the scope of that exception.

If our cookie or similar-technology use changes materially, this page will be updated to describe the relevant purpose and provider and, where practical, the duration.

5. Third-party resources

Some pages may request resources from third-party services, such as hosted fonts or images. Those providers may receive ordinary technical request information such as an IP address and browser details. Their own privacy and cookie practices apply to services they operate.

6. How to control cookies

You can use your browser settings to view, delete or block cookies. Blocking all cookies can affect website features that rely on them. Where the site presents a cookie-consent control, use that control to manage non-essential cookies for this website.
